Morning Spritzer

1 serving · a bright start, no caffeine · 1 minute

A light, tart, faintly sweet sparkling drink to start the day or break up an afternoon. No added sugar, no artificial anything—just sparkling water and two real juices used in small amounts for flavor and a gentle polyphenol lift.

Ingredients
  • 8 oz unsweetened lemon-lime sparkling water (Waterloo or similar)
  • 2 tbsp grapefruit juice (fresh-squeezed or 100% juice, not from concentrate if possible)
  • 1 tbsp unsweetened cranberry juice (Lakewood or R.W. Knudsen—pure, not "cocktail")
  • Optional: a few ice cubes, a twist of lemon or lime peel
Directions

Pour the sparkling water into a glass over ice. Add the grapefruit and cranberry juices. Stir once, gently, to keep the carbonation. Drink right away while it's lively.

Why this works

Most "healthy" morning drinks are just diluted sugar. This one uses only a tablespoon or two of real juice—enough for bright grapefruit and tart cranberry flavor and a small dose of their polyphenols—carried by plain sparkling water rather than more juice. The result is satisfying and low-sugar, a stand-in for soda or a glass of juice that doesn't spike anything. Pairs well with a yogurt bowl or eggs.
