Rostad was the portion of Søre Haugen where Knut Hølgjeson lived and farmed. The 1698 land register uses the designation 'Haugen southern with Rostad'—one hide six skins (nine skins on each part). The ice road on Lågen in wintertime through Flesberg came up on land at Rostad.

This is the farm history's account (Søre Haugen Bygdebokbygdebok (plural bygdebøker) A Norwegian local history, usually a few volumes per district, going farm by farm through who lived there and when. Compiled from church registers, censuses, probate, tax and court records. The Kjemhus line comes from the ones for Flesberg and Rollag. All the words), as the Kjemhus page has told it. It hasn't yet been checked against the original records; a fuller write-up from them is to come.
