Søre Haugen entered the family through Torbjørg Hallsteinsdotter Ramberg, who married Hølgje Tørjerson. Her father Hallstein Torsteinsson and mother Guro Knutsdotter had lived at Southern Haugen. After Hølgje's death in 1688, son Knut received nine skinn in Søre Haugen with Rostad.
The 1683 land register records a mill belonging to Rostad on the brook between Haugen and Rostad, pulled in flood-time. The 1723 register describes the combined property: sandy soil, flat, sunny slope, easy operation, forest and summer farm for household needs.
A full boundary walk between Southern and Northern Haugen was carried out in 1694, dividing summer farms and fishing waters on the mountain. The public road along the valley went through this hamlet—for a long time the road passable with horse-drawn vehicles furthest south in Rollag.
This is the farm history's account (Søre Haugen Bygdebokbygdebok (plural bygdebøker) A Norwegian local history, usually a few volumes per district, going farm by farm through who lived there and when. Compiled from church registers, censuses, probate, tax and court records. The Kjemhus line comes from the ones for Flesberg and Rollag. All the words), as the Kjemhus page has told it. It hasn't yet been checked against the original records; a fuller write-up from them is to come.
